This real estate project marks a new venture where we serve as the internal team for the developer, responsible for advancing the development of an 18-acre plot in Cerme, Gresik. When we joined the project in 2021, the first phase of development was already halfway completed but had stalled due to economic challenges. Our role involved resuming the first phase while simultaneously planning the second phase of development, which is a 5-acre of landed housing and a commercial area adjacent to the first phase. Given Gresik's well-known heat, and inspired by the real estate tagline "the most tropical living in Gresik," we envisioned Phase 2 as an oasis amidst a desert-like environment. We designed three types of Modern Mediterranean style homes, tailored for middle-income residents, complemented by Mediterranean landscaping and abundant greenery to help cool the surroundings. The homes are laid out to maximize natural ventilation through passive cooling strategies, reducing heat penetration and promoting airflow. At the heart of Phase 2, we created A CENTRAL PARK inspired by the largest oasis of the Arabian desert, featuring a looping infinity track lined with lush Leekuanyew plants. Once the housing design was completed, we shifted our focus to the commercial area, located near the main gate and envisioned as the lifestyle hub of Cerme. This vibrant space is designed to bring people together, offering a refreshing environment with a central square surrounded by retail shops and F&B outlets. Across this commercial strip, we included a nursery that doubles as an outdoor food court and a multipurpose building. This flexible space can accommodate a variety of activities, such as workshops, classes, or even small weddings for up to 100-200 guests.
