Killiney’s identity is deeply tied to its Peranakan roots, with its first store on Killiney Road reflecting this architectural heritage. In researching design elements, we also explored Lau Pa Sat Market, which embodies Singapore’s rich hawker culture with its recognizable green structures. While Killiney stores in Singapore strike a balance between old and new, international branches tend to lean modern. In Surabaya, we aimed to maintain Killiney’s cultural essence. By drawing from traditional Peranakan housing, we introduced dark wood, green accents, and ornate detailing to create an authentic kopitiam atmosphere. The store at Juanda Domestic Airport features a functional layout with a central bar and open seating, encouraging accessibility. A Teh Tarik station acts as a focal point, while a foldable window system ensures adaptability. This approach preserves Killiney’s heritage while making it relevant for today’s customers.
